The gameplay gets way, way too chaotic, and with many of the action skills this time around, so much is flashing on the screen (especially with ClapTrap) you don't always know what in the **** is hitting you, and then you're in FFYL and dead. This is completely unacceptable in 2014, not to mention Borderlands 1 and 2 had the same issues with missions that would become broken. So your only option is to restart with a new character. Since it's a main story mission, you can't proceed (unless it's patched later).

If you get knocked off said 2nd floor, there is currently no way to get back up. There are game breaking bugs, to include a main story mission in which you take a lift to the 2nd floor of a building. You'll be looking at grey moon for nearly the entire game.
